Eco-Friendly Water Savings Tips For Your Commercial Property’s Landscape
As we head into the landscaping season, below are a few eco-friendly water savings tips for your commercial property.
1. Mulching
Ensure that you have the right amount of mulch, which is an excellent natural tool to keep the planting beds they cover moist while also reducing weed development and growth. There are several types of mulch available which can not only reduce your water consumption, but also beautify your grounds!
2. Plant Species
Consider switching plants that are heavier consumers of water to those which require less watering. Clintar can identify which plants you have that could be considered for replacement while maintaining a pleasant appearance.
3. When to and when not to water
If not using a “smart” watering system, review your time schedule to ensure that you are watering at the right time. The best time is early in the morning, whereas applying water in the middle or late afternoon, or evening, present their own set of problems and do not allow for water consumption savings. Watering during the heat of day can also cause damage to plants, including turf.
4. Does your irrigation system work at 100%?
An unchecked irrigation system may be losing water through partially broken pipes, joints, etc. In addition, it’s important to check that the sprinkler heads are fully working and not damaged, that any sensors are also working correctly, and that the timing system is helping save on water. If you don’t already have one, there are systems that include wireless sensors that measure water moisture at root leve,l and send signals back to the irrigation system as to where and when to water, resulting in additional water savings. Clintar offers this state of the art technology – UgMO™.
